There are several things pool owners can attempt when trying to lower the temperature of their pool water. Check out the tips below if you wish to cool your pool this summer!
How To Cool Down Pool Water
If your pool water is consistently too warm, a pool cover or heater could simply be the culprit. Try removing either of these features to see if your pool water temperature decreases. If this is not the case, there are a few other things pool owners can try to regulate the water temperature. Use these tips below!
Install Water Features
While this can be expensive, it is certainly effective. Installing features like waterfalls or fountains can lower your pool’s temperature. These features will keep the water moving, causing evaporation to cool the water down. Operate these features during the nighttime in order to maximize their effectiveness as the air temperature will be colder in the evening.
Partially Drain And Refill Pool
Depending on your water source, another great way to lower the pool temperature is to partially drain and refill the water. If the outdoors water is colder than your pool water, it’s best to lower its temperature. Always remember to test and rebalance the water chemistry following the refill.
Add Ice
One of the oldest and quickest ways to cool down your water is to add ice. Pour the ice into your pool in bulk for instant relief.
Use Pool Coolers
Pool coolers essentially work as AC for your pool water. These coolers can bring the temperature down quite significantly by 10-15 degrees. These devices are inexpensive and often come complete with a temperature control system. The cooler will pass the flowing water through a fan to remove the heat and cool it instantly, then it is released back to the pool. This also makes it easier for you to maintain the water chemistry.
Nearby Solar Panels
Solar panels can be used to both heat and cool pool water. Use the pump to run water through the panels at night when the outside temperature is lower than the pool’s water temperature. These panels will expel heat from the water, resulting in lower temperatures.
Landscape Adjustments
Swimming pools can heat up quickly when landscaping blocks the air movement across the pool. Make some updates landscape-wise if trees and/or plants are blocking the natural airflow over the pool area. This will result in quick and efficient cooling.
